The Angels of Death receive an extract from a Large Book every day, which describes the fate of people and the dates of their death. From these statements, the angels learn the names of the human clients who are due to die today, as well as the circumstances and causes of their deaths. The task of the angels is to be with the client at the time of his death and make sure that everything goes exactly as it is written in the Big Book. If one person for some reason does not die on time or dies earlier, an error occurs in the balance of the universe.
