Kishan Singh. a retired teacher from India, comes out to the US to visit his son Raj. Raj's American-bom wife Laura used to write poetry but 'Life gets in the way of art'. Kishan's presence and the problems raised from gender and cultural expectations cause tension. When Kishan decides to stay indefinitely, conflict erupts. A series of poignant episodes help Laura appreciate Kishan's zest for life and at the same time enable Raj and Laura to examine their lives in a new light.
